We are an Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander (AANHPI) bookstore now!
What had originally started as offering Filipino/English books on this site for my own children has now transformed into a bookshop highlighting AAPI authors and publishers!
the origins
I knew once I started my first kit I wanted to include a piece of literature. I started with a zine in the kit, then an art book in the next kit, then a kid kit that had Filipino books.
This quickly became my best sellers. People love buying books! Books for themselves, books for the kids in their lives.
the expansion
While getting to participate in Kapwa Kultural Center’s soft opening, I wanted to curate new items for the greater community. I’m part of a mothering community on Facebook and that’s how I knew about Third State Books publishing. Stephanie and I had only corresponded via online and I reached out to her to see if she’d like to have her books on display at the soft opening.
Stephanie graciously drove down to Kapwa Kultural Center and met me (we got to hug for the first time!!) and helped create the display!
I knew it would be a great addition since I’ve personally read Pride and Preston Lin and Fighting to Belong!
Third State Books is doing amazing work for the community - uplifting AAPI voices and getting our stories out there.
I’m so excited that we also get to carry their books on the site as well!
I have also added an option to purchase a copy to be donated. When on the product page you can select the drop down that says “sponsor a book” and we will gift it to the community - either to a local library (if they don’t have a copy yet) or a local little community library, or any other nonprofits or places you think would be a good fit!
Little Yellow Jeepney Books
We’ve also expanded this collection to include
They were a hit at the Undiscovered SF block party that we had to do another restock!
